Many of us are gathered here today in San Diego for Rosh Hashanah. We’ve come from near and far, and what is readily apparent is that we at the Kabbalah Centre are a diverse community of people from different cultures, different backgrounds, and even different religions. Some of us can’t even communicate through a common language! So the question is how are we supposed to find unity with each other? Here’s the idea: None of us will like everyone. But what we can do is respect everyone and grant them the human dignity that is their Divine right. In other words, not all of us can walk the same walk, but what we can do is walk together in the same direction. Walking together in the same direction means that we are able to listen to the opinions of others even if we don’t agree with them. It means that if someone has an idea, we are able to open ourselves and give that idea a chance. It means that we are aware that beyond this physicality, there is the level of Soul, and on that level, we are all One. The foundation of unity is the concept that what is more important than being right is being capable of understanding the views of others and of working together. We can all be great in what we do. But we can be even greater when we do it together. |
